It has begun
I believe the singularity has already begun. There's a technological world evolving right in front of us. We've already seen massive advances in technology in the past century, so this singularity will begin very, very soon, if not already begun. It doesn't take long after a discovery is made, to design and create new things, and my opinion is..."Bring the new technology on!"
fluffy concepts from fluffy brains
It's not often that I see such a gaping chasm between a solid grasp of science and the people trying to talk about it. I think the last time was when some stoners were waxing lyrical about quantum mechanics...
The design of computers has not made exponential progress, and could even be characterised as somewhat stagnant. Almost all the progress has been in the manufacturing process, and faster computers do not make manufacturing easier at all.
On top of that, two factors will play a part in the future of computers (regardless of who or what designs them):
1) physical limits on microstructures as components' size becomes comparable to atomic scale
2) the exponential increase in cost of manufacturing at exponentially smaller scales
We are not mathematical objects
The singularity is a mathematical concept.
From a practical point of view, the singularity is an impossibility.

Singularity? Probably, I guess.
Your guess is as good as mine, since we are all in the dark on so many technical, social and political matters. Ahead of us lies the chaotic structure we call the future, so who knows? Still, this being an unscientific poll, we have license to dispense with facts. So, I say "Yes", it will happen, because I have a hunch that it will, and it's my preferred scenario.
Singularity
Singularity? I reached the state of singularity when things like the Blackberry were thrust upon us. The machines have already taken over.
