SYDNEY: Ever feel as though you're being followed? As if someone is behind you, shadowing your every move? It might be your ‘shadow person', created by unusual activity in a specific brain region, a new study shows.
The paper, published in the British journal Nature, describes the case of a 22-year-old woman with no history of psychiatric problems who was being evaluated for treatment of epilepsy. When a region of her brain called the left temporoparietal junction was electrically stimulated, the woman described encounters with a ‘shadow person' who mimicked her bodily movements.
"Electrical stimulation repeatedly produced a feeling of the presence of another person in her extra-personal space," said Olaf Blanke, co-author of the study conducted by a team of researchers from University Hospital in Geneva, Switzerland.
When the patient was lying down, stimulation of this brain region caused her to feel that someone was behind her. She described the person as young, of indeterminate sex, "a shadow who did not speak or move, and whose position beneath her back was identical to her own", according to the researchers.
When the patient sat up, leaned forward and clasped her knees, she felt that the figure was also sitting, embracing her in its arms - a feeling she described as "unpleasant".
During a language task, in which the seated patient held a card in her right hand, she described the person sitting next to her and trying to interfere with the task. "He wants to take the card … he doesn't want me to read," she said.
Because it was possible to induce the sensation repeatedly, and because the ‘shadow person' closely mimicked the patient's posture and movements, the researchers conclude that the patient was experiencing a perception of her own body.
"The strange sensation that somebody is nearby when no one is actually present has been described by psychiatric and neurological patients, as well as by healthy subjects," said Blanke. Until now, however, it was not understood how the illusion was triggered in the brain.
The temporoparietal junction is known to be involved in creating the concept of ‘self', and the distinction between ‘self' and ‘other'. According to the researchers, stimulation of this region interfered with the patient's ability to integrate information about her own body, leading to her experience of a ‘shadow person'.
Although the woman was aware of the similarity between her own movements and those of her doppelganger, she didn't recognise the experience as an illusion of her own body.
Similar shadowy encounters have been described by people with schizophrenia, as well as by healthy subjects, leading the researchers to believe that: "Our findings may be a step towards understanding the mechanisms behind psychiatric manifestations such as paranoia, persecution and alien control."

So... previously undetected dark entities have been following our every move undetected... do we all have one?
After all... previously undetected matter and energy are now identified as making up the larger portion of the universe... that we just hadn't happened to look for before... in spite of reports since 1933 that it could easily exist and in all scientific probability actually did. Then we found it.
Laugh if you must, but there are sufficient 'crazy' stories of hints of extra sensory connections, anomalous activities, pseudo-science etc etc to leave us unable to dismiss the faint possibility that we do 'not' actually know everything, even about that which most closely surrounds us...

Plausibly, we may easily have been ignoring something for so long that we have evolved (in the true sense of the word) the inability to know what is near us, until such time (as now, perhaps) that we invent the need to discover and demystify the unknown and begin to use the tools we have to stumble upon it. Curiouser and curiouser. Don't ya just luv it?

Some mountaineers have reported that they "feel" somebody behind them,wonder if this is the same phenomena?
My take on the shadow person phenomenon.
ok this is an all encompassing concept deal. light illuminates objects. shadow is the lack of this illumination. we are 3 dimensional beings bathed in an all pervasive electromagnetic spectrum. moving thru a seething subquantum sea. which gives us a perception of a 4th dimension, time. ok well shadow people are also 3 dimensional beings in this same sea but only sharing 2 of our dimensions. so like a picture they are 2 dimensional.but they move and are not "projected " but exist free spatially. kinda like a hologram. but no depth to them just length and width. and if they "turn sideways " they are a like a line or a point and dissappear to our 3 dimensional fixated perception. as far as i can tell they are harmless and if u ask your closest family or friends they will confide that they also "see" or have seen these phenomena. like the "flashes" of cosmic rays in the astronauts eyes after a while they did not "recognize" them or "see " them. they filtered them our as are all or perceptions are filtered by our consciousness . we see but do not see unless it is out of the "corner" of our eyes. where movement but no detail is processed (survival instinct).

Nothing is evil by its cover, don't judge by looks or group a whole race by a individuals actions, if it was ok to judge by looks or by a few bad apples ,then lets classify all humans evil due to Hitler and the Nazism attitude towards things different and misunderstood or directed by mass conditional beliefs ,
As a example for a whole race , lets say a alien species example of what a human is was the war of gangs,the deaths of innocent children the rapes the stealing and such that goes on in every town cities and country if any race is demonic in action as a whole the only one that can be studied is that of the human race!
So look in the mirror before you judge something you have no clue about the only demonic acts i've seen with blood and lives is from human hands turn on the TV watch the news the facts are there so take a deep look inwards , before you call all shadow people demons, or negative, thats true prejudice!!!
humans are not the only conscious emotional beings with feelings in the universe , did you ever think that shadow people may be trying to warn you or help you maybe even cleanse you from your own destructive behaviors? how many other beings have to be scared away from visiting how long is this attitude of difference going to keep the worlds divided , think about the children of the shadow people and other races that have to hear stories about how people think there evil and negative and good for nothings , maybe they think the same of the human race , humans are not gods they are flesh and bone and according to the bible sinned and where casted out of the garden of eden for being sinful creatures, no wonder so many seem to wish to point a finger towards something else

How about those stupid scientists try it on themselves too so they could understand what was it that the test subject was feeling, that way they would know for sure what to conclude.
