What a dumb poll!

It IS a dumb poll. What's

It IS a dumb poll. What's that last option about, like anyone still believes in those fairytales.

No kidding- SCIENCE magazine, eh?

I was taken aback by that choice, I must say. "Hands of the gods", indeed! Consider yourselves "hurumphed" at!

Sperm DNA no longer counts ?

Since it's the DNA contained in the egg fertilizing sperm which delivers the X or Y gender determining chromosome, does the study which inspired this poll imply that the the mother's diet prior to conception bring about a means to select between a X carrying versus a Y carrying sperm ?

I wonder what parallel there is between the mother's and father's diets and if it is the father's diet which effects the ratio between X and Y carrying sperm, which should theoretically be 50 - 50.

This study just bring more questions, not answers.

It isn't just sperm and it isn't dumb.

Read the article. Fertilization doesn't equal a successful pregnancy. Indeed, it seems likely a great many fertilized ova never result in a pregnancy. Pregnancy is a tricky symbiosis at the best of times, and what this study shows is that diet can bias the successful result one way or the other.

So it isn't about sperm.

And it isn't dumb.

There is people than waste peoples money in quite dumb polls. They forgot the basic XY cromosomas? That looks pretty proved at this age. If you look at the politica statisticsa you will find that they never got who will be elected for this or that. I can propose a new poll for them: study if those who drink wine are more prone to get drunk than those who drink orange juice with vodka

I think we can leave god out of it.

god???

haha.... God?

god???

The question refers to 'gods', not god or God. Surely it means 'leave it to chance', which is what life is all about, really.

Not so dumb - actually based on the latest research

This week's poll was inspired by a news story we published this week. See Mother's diet can determine sex of foetus, based on a study published this week in the British journal, Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
