Plasma and LCD might get all the attention, but rear projection technology has progressed in leaps and bounds in recent years, delivering a high quality picture for a very competitive price.

Samsung’s SP61K3HX is a case in point. You get a massive 155 cm (61 in) screen, support for 1080i (although not 1080p) resolution, vivid colour and it’ll cost you less than a LCD screen half the size.

It might not be quite up there with plasma or LCD in terms of brightness and contrast, but if you want big on a budget, it’s the way to go.
