Create your own light show
The humble tungsten light globe has now been in use for the best part of a century, but its end is in sight. LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, have also been around for a few decades, but only recently has their cost and brightness been at a level to compete with Edison's invention.
LEDs are not quite as bright as regular light bulbs, but they consume far less power and last up to 100 times longer. Best of all, you can combine a number of primary-coloured LEDs to create any colour you want. You don't need a custom installation to get LED lighting in your home though.
The LED Shop offers a wide range of bulbs that fit straight into conventional screw or bayonet fittings. There's even a bulb that will cycle through a range of colours automatically.
It might be a few years before LED lighting becomes common in homes, but the revolution has already begun. Watch out Edison.
