![]() Intel doesn't just make computer chips. In fact, Intel spends more on its various research projects than all of Australia does on research in total. As such, Intel comes up with a wide range of interesting ideas, especially in one of its favourite areas: mobile computing. These concept PCs were demonstrated at Intel's recent Research Day, when it opens its doors and lets its bespectacled boffins out to show off their visions of the future. These concept systems are built around the idea of a notebook computer being a fusion of mobile and desktop PC. You can lug it around and use it like a touch screen tablet when you're on the move, or you can fold it up and use it like a regular PC on the desk. These concept notebooks also have every kind of wireless you can imagine, including Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G mobile, the upcoming short range Wireless USB and the long range WiMax. That basically means you're connected just about wherever you go. Don't expect these systems to be hitting the store soon, but we can expect other computer vendors to be paying careful attention, and appropriating any nifty ideas for their future models. |
