Bang & Olufsen BeoLab 5 speaker system

Manufacturer: Bang & Olufsen
Sinister sound

There's something eerie about Bang & Olufsen's new BeoLab 5 speaker. Not only does it have a slick and unearthly appearance, it is also packed with so much technology and intelligent software, we're not entirely sure that it's not superior to humans in just about every possible way. Resembling a cross between a Tesla coil and a Dalek, the BeoLab 5 uses acoustic-lens technology, based on the unique properties of the elliptical shape, to deliver an equally unique sound. The speaker also doesn't merely produce sound, but listens to the environment in which it's placed, which allows the built-in software to adjust dynamically to the output needed for optimal sound. That's smart. It's also powered by nothing less than 2,500 watts of power per unit, so there's no risk you won't hear what's going on. Bang & Olufsen has obviously striven to produce the best home audio speaker in the world, and it's achieved this goal by a long margin. And they only cost about US$16,000 a pair!
