Chapter listA new serialised novel by Damien Broderick & Barbara LamarCan science find a way to defeat death? Will it offer humans the gift of potentially endless, healthy life - and if so, at what cost? Will people spared the curse of ageing, and even of mortality itself, become inhuman - or more human than ever? And who or what will control this perilous boon? Government or corporations? 'Faith-based' caregivers? Organised crime? Or individual choice? Post Mortal Syndrome is an exciting blend of thriller and science fiction, with a poignant love story at its heart. Post Mortal Syndrome began publication on 16 April 2007, and was published every weekday, five days a week, in tasty, bite-sized chunks that could be enjoyed in a few minutes. The serialisation ended on 2 July 2007, but you can still enjoy Australia's first online serialisation of a novel by reading each stimulating chapter at your own pace here. About the authors
Online serialisation edited and designed by Anthony Willis.See our media releases about the serialisation of Post Mortal Syndrome 2 July 2007 | The end: Post Mortal Syndrome reaches a climax 13 April 2007 | COSMOS publishes Australia's first online serialised novel Readers' commentsPost Mortal SyndromeEntertaining and thought-provoking science and philosophy - disguised as a romantic sci-fi thriller, wrapped around an assured walk into one of many possible positive scenarios for humankind in the future. What a wonderful world this could be. Inspiring and edifying, stories like Post Mortal Syndrome need to be popularized, read and discussed by wayfarers into the future - that is to say, all of us. - Olga Bourlin, Seattle, Washington, USA Submitted by Visitor on 10 May 2007 - 10:46am.
Post Mortal SyndromeHaving followed Broderick's books right from DREAMING DRAGONS through K-MACHINES, I always look forward to more of his high-minded science wrapped up in accessible, character-driven prose. In POST MORTAL, Broderick and Lamar exhibit their understanding of the human interactions that populate our world, this one or whatever comes after. In a novel based on the apparently contradictory premise of a post mortal promise, maintaining the humanity of those interactions showcases the authors' remarkable skills in both writing and conceptualizing the future. -- L.M. I am enjoying this bookI am enjoying this book thoroughly. I only wish I didn't have to agonisingly wait a day for each chapter. Is there anywhere I can donate? Submitted by Visitor on 15 May 2007 - 3:19am.
Thanks for the supportIt's great to see hundreds of online readers who, just like you, cannot wait for the next chapter and are following the serialisation on a daily basis. Others seem to wait a few days and then read multiple chapters in one sitting. We here at COSMOS are very encouraged by all this. Postl Mortal Syndrome is published free to readers; however, COSMOS is paying the authors for the right to serialise the novel online. Why? In the hope that readers will become aware of the excellence of COSMOS, and support us by taking out a subscription to the print magazine. The more readers who do, the more we will be able to do things like this. So do please support us and take out a subscription to COSMOS, for yourself or for a friend. Though I wouldn't dare making demands or suggestions I can only share that I would be severely upset it this was one of that stories that teach a moral position by having it all end bad ! :)))
Good going so far Damien, very exciting !
