The Devil Wears Apple.

I have been at Cosmos Magazine a grand total of four days now and I’ve already realised how little I know. However, I have also learned a lot over the last four days. Let’s recap with the top five things Georgia has learned this week:
1. Public Transport is NOT my friend. I have to conquer it.
I’m from Perth and my last job there was a grand total of 200 metres from my house. I’m staying in Manly while I’m here in Sydney and accidentally took the bus north instead of south on my first day. Needless to say I was more than an hour late, after I realised I had landed myself in Palm Beach and not the Sydney CBD as planned.
2. Giving your brain an extended, five-month holiday is probably the worst idea ever.
That last job I mentioned before? Retail. It was my “in-between uni and the real world” job and it was truly mind numbing. My brain is so tired at the end of the day it already wants a holiday!
3. I know less about science than I knew before I walked through the office doors on day one.
I majored in history and political science at university and I'm addicted to reading cookbooks. Science is NOT my forte and while I am a fast learner, I still feel like I’m living in some foreign land where I’m the dumb tourist who keeps embarrassing herself with social faux pas.
4. I am almost 90% sure that this Apple computer I have been given to work on is inhabited by the devil himself.
Every morning I come in and waste 30+ minutes starting and restarting this evil machine while it decides whether it wants to be my friend today. It shuts itself down at least six times before it allows me to even enter my password. Then it shuts down again and I have to repeat the entire process over!
5. Offices are not as scary as I previously thought.
I always thought working in a cubicle would rot away my body and soul. Maybe it would, if I were working in something as awful as accounting or – I shudder to mention – law, if I'd completed that degree… But this office is pretty rad and has convinced me (in such a short period of time) that not all offices are where you go to let your soul die. Also, it has a dog (Gypsy), so that’s cool too. I’m pro-animals.
So that’s it from me, now I shall get back to trying to conquer public transport, wake up my brain, educate myself on science, make friends with the computer AND give Gypsy a pat on the head, all while trying to make time to write a story or two in between. I’m a pretty busy little lady.
